In Karenni State, at Nanphe village on the border between Hpruso and Bawlakhe townships, military junta troops stationed in the village fired heavy artillery into areas where civilians were present, killing a pregnant internally displaced woman who was struck by shrapnel. The incident occurred on February 12. The victim was a pregnant woman in her early 40s, according to locals.

During the second week of February, junta troops fired heavy artillery more than 20 times at villages and IDP camp areas.

“A civilian casualty occurred. A pregnant woman died after being hit in the chest by shrapnel. Last night (February 15), there was also a drone strike. One man was injured. His injuries are serious, and he has been sent to the hospital,” a local man said.

Since February 5, after junta troops re-established positions in and around Nanphe village, they have carried out daily heavy artillery shelling, drone attacks, and airstrikes. Revolutionary forces have issued warnings for the public to exercise caution and prioritize their safety.

“Sometimes they fire seven or eight rounds in a single day. Other times, it’s just two or three rounds. Over a week, it probably totals around 20 to 30 rounds. There are also separate drone strikes,” the man added.

Because the junta troops have been firing unilaterally without any clashes with revolutionary forces, some displaced people have fled again to other places where they believe to be safer.
Due to ongoing military activity by the junta troops since February 6, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) has announced that travel on the Demoso–Hpruso–Htarleh–Nanphe–Bawlakhe main road is prohibited.

The area has been designated an emergency zone based on ground military conditions, and the road has been closed indefinitely.
