Residents of an IDP camp in western Mobye Township, on the Shan-Karenni border, have fled to other areas again due to fears of junta airstrikes and drone attacks, according to displaced people.

IDPs said they were moving again due to security concerns. On Oct. 13, the military junta carried out an airstrike in western Mobye and has continued conducting frequent drone surveillance and bombing attacks in the area.

“People have been afraid since the airstrike took place. Concerned about their safety, they are fleeing once again,” a female IDP said.

Some of the recently displaced IDPs reportedly cannot afford to hire vehicles to carry their belongings.

“We don’t have any transportation of our own. People with vehicles sometimes ask relatives to cover the fuel costs, but they charge a fee if you’re not related to them,” another female IDP said.
She added that the fare for a tractor or car costs at least 50,000 kyats and can reach 250,000 kyats, depending on the distance.

IDPs also said that because they have had to move from one place to another, they are in need of personal hygiene supplies and basic food items.

Fighting is ongoing in Mobye Township between junta forces and resistance groups. Resistance forces say the military has also been carrying out airstrikes and drone attacks on civilian areas.

IDPs said the exact number of people displaced again from western Mobye has not been confirmed, but they estimate that more than 600 people have fled so far.
