Myanmar Military’s Targeted Attacks on Civilians
Throughout June, the military junta carried out frequent airstrikes and drone bomb attacks on civilian-populated areas in Demoso and Hpruso townships, where there has been no active fighting, in Karenni State.
The pattern of these attacks clearly indicates that civilians were deliberately targeted, and casualties have been reported during the attacks. The following incidents have been documented by Kantarawaddy Times, although the actual number of attacks and casualties on the ground may be higher.
Airstrikes
Military Airstrike Hits Western Hpruso Township
Hpruso Township – June 30

On June 30, at around 1:00 p.m., the military junta carried out an airstrike on a location in western Hpruso Township, Karenni State.
One civilian sustained minor injuries, and one house was damaged by the bombing.
As the attack occurred in an area where there was no fighting, civilians and internally displaced persons (IDPs) are living in fear.
Junta Bombs Nanmekhon Town
Demoso Township – June 29
At around 1:00 p.m. on June 29, the junta conducted an airstrike on an area in Nanmekhon town, Demoso Township, Karenni State. Two fighter aircraft were used in the attack. No casualties were reported.
The military also bombed two nearby locations, damaging residential houses.
According to local residents, there was no armed clash at the time of the attack, and the targeted locations were civilian residential areas.
Airstrike on a Village in Western Demoso Township
Demoso Township – June 24

At around 10:00 p.m. on June 24, the junta conducted an airstrike on a village in western Demoso Township.
The military dropped a bomb, which exploded on a nearby hilltop. Although no casualties were reported, bomb fragments struck IDP shelters and nearby farmland.
The bombing of a civilian area without any ongoing fighting has heightened fears among displaced people and local residents.
Airstrikes on Three Locations in Western Demoso; One Man Killed
Demoso Township – June 4

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 4, the junta carried out airstrikes on three locations in western Demoso Township.
A man in his 30s was killed, while two other men were injured. The deceased was identified as a Christian pastor. The airstrikes also damaged several homes.
Earlier in June, the military had already carried out airstrikes, drone bomb attacks, and artillery shelling against civilian-populated areas, causing civilian casualties. Residents reported growing anxiety as attacks continued despite the absence of armed clashes in their communities.

Drone Bomb Attacks
During the current planting season in Karenni State, the junta has increasingly used drones to bomb farmers working in their fields and to target civilian communities.
These attacks have intensified fear among civilians and farmers.
Local residents also reported that military frontline outposts have been conducting daily drone surveillance and bomb attacks.
The following incidents targeting civilians have been documented by Kantarawaddy Times.
Two Children Killed in Drone Bomb Attack in Demoso Township
Demoso Township – June 24

At around 1:00 p.m. on June 24, the junta carried out a drone bomb attack on a village in Demoso Township, killing two children.
One of the victims was a 10-year-old girl who was killed instantly after being struck by bomb fragments. The other victim was a six-year-old child.
Although the village was inhabited only by civilians, the military launched the drone strike without any conflict in the area.
Farmers Working in Their Fields Fear for Their Safety After Junta Troops’ Drone Bombings
Hpruso Township – June 13 & 16

Residents say the junta has been conducting drone surveillance and bombing farmers traveling to and working in upland fields in eastern Hpruso Township, Karenni State.
The military carried out drone bomb attacks twice, once on June 13 and again on June 16. No casualties were reported.
As the planting season is underway and farmers are working in their fields to earn a living, the drone attacks have created widespread fear among local farming communities.
Residents also said the junta frequently fires heavy artillery at civilian-populated areas in addition to carrying out drone bomb attacks. These attacks have damaged homes and injured local civilians.
According to local residents, drone attacks by the military have become increasingly frequent in Hpruso Township throughout 2026.
Military Drone Bomb Attack on a Village in Demoso Township, Injuring One
Demoso Township – June 15
On June 15, the junta carried out a drone bomb attack on a village in Demoso Township, injuring a man in his 40s.
At around 9:00 a.m., a drone dropped a bomb on the man’s house. Villagers were able to rescue him after he was struck by bomb fragments.
The shrapnel struck his neck but was not in a life-threatening condition, according to one of the rescuers.
Drone Bomb Attack on a Location in Nanmekhon Town, Injuring a Civilian
Demoso Township – June 3

On June 3, the junta launched a drone bomb attack on a location in Demoso Township, injuring one civilian and damaging personal property.
An elderly woman was wounded by bomb fragments during the attack. According to local residents, the targeted area is a civilian-populated area.
Additionally, a vehicle parked by the roadside was hit by drone shrapnel.
Residents said the military frequently attacks Nanmekhon town with artillery and drones. As a result, local farmers continue to replant their rice fields under constant fear and uncertainty while trying to secure their livelihoods.
Drone Bomb Attacks Damage Homes in Hpruso Township
Hpruso Township – June 1

The junta carried out drone bomb attacks on a location in Hpruso Township on May 31 and June 1, for two consecutive days, damaging residential houses.
The military dropped three bombs at around 10:30 p.m. on May 31 and another bomb at approximately 4:00 a.m. on June 1.
According to local residents, three houses were damaged in the attacks.
