Karenni resistance groups have carried out attacks on the Burma Army (BA) around the town of Moybe in Pekon Township over the past week in an attempt to drive regime troops out of villages in southern Shan State, where enemy soldiers have been looting and pillaging.

”The BA has deployed its troops in Mobye town and surrounding villages and that is why we are clashing with them,” the spokesperson for the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force said of the fighting around Warisu Palai from 20 to 22 April. The officer said many BA soldiers were killed in the clashes with the Karenni Army (KA) and the KNDF, which are supported by the Mobye People’s Defence Forces.

He said that BA troops are planting landmines around people’s villages and that some houses in the area were damaged by recent BA shelling.

The KA and the KNDF also fought with BA in Dor Kamee in Demawso Township, Karenni State from 22 to 23 April.

According to KNDF Battalion 8, the BA burnt down two civilian houses between Khuak Palot and Ngu Palot wards in Demawso at around 9am on Friday.

Fighting between the BA and Karenni armed groups started in May, 2021 after the regime violently cracked down on people peacefully protesting the military coup over a year ago.
