Shelling by the State Administration Council (SAC) resulted in two new victims on Thursday in Karenni State, with a child killed in Loikaw Township and a woman in Demoso Township.
“Around 11:30 pm last night, four shells landed in our village. A girl was killed, and civilian houses were damaged by the Burma army’s shells,” said a local man requesting anonymity. He explained that 10-year-old Ma Thin Zar Nyein, the youngest girl among her six siblings, died during the attack, and two villagers suffered minor injuries.
Infantry Battalion (IB) 530 in Loi Lin Lay shelled the surrounding area, leading to the tragic death of the girl in a village near the town. Locals reported that there was no fighting in the area when the shelling occurred. SAC had also shelled villages from its base on October 31, causing civilians to flee the area that night.
On the same night as the death of the child, IB 102 fired into eastern Demoso Township from a town sharing the same name, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old woman and the injury of a 22-year-old woman.
A male in Mobye town was also injured by a SAC shell in November.
The regime intentionally attacks areas populated by civilians with heavy weapons in Karenni State regardless of whether there is fighting in the area or the presence of resistance fighters.
