Khun Bahan Htan, who served as the Deputy Minister of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG), has stepped down from his position, he told Kantarawaddy Times.

“It is true that I have resigned from my position in the NUG, but that does not mean I am stepping away from my responsibilities in the revolution. I will continue to take part in the fight against the military dictatorship alongside the people and fellow revolutionaries,” he stated.

On March 7, Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than officially announced that Khun Bahan Htan had been granted permission to resign from his position.

Khun Bahan Htan emphasized that his resignation, which took effect on March 7, was allowing him to contribute more effectively to the revolution in areas where he could have a stronger impact.

“My resignation from the NUG is official as of the announced date. This decision will enable me to take on roles where I can make a greater contribution to the revolution from the areas where I am strongest,” he said.

Khun Bahan Htan holds a master’s degree in Political Science from Ramkhamhaeng University in Bangkok, Thailand. He is also currently serving as the head of domestic and international relations for the Kayan New Land Party (KNLP).
