On August 26, junta troops advanced into a village in the western part of Hruso Township, Karenni State, forcing residents to flee, according to villagers.
Residents said the column arrived without warning, and a local man was wounded when troops opened fire with small arms at close range.
“He was shot at close range with a small arm. The bullet went through his arm, near the shoulder,” said a resident.
Residents of the village the junta column entered, along with those from four nearby villages, are currently in hiding. An estimated 400 people have been displaced.
With the rainy season underway, those displaced are facing serious hardship, according to people close to them.
Throughout August, junta forces have been conducting military operations across Hpruso Township, reportedly carrying out frequent drone strikes and bombings on areas where civilians are present.
