“He was killed by an improvised mine. He was an internally displaced person from Daw Se. He was a male, around 35 years old,” a KnHRG official said.

The injured victims were harmed by landmines. Based on records collected by Kantarawaddy Times so far, the incidents occurred on April 13 in Naung Yar (Ka or A), which is one of the wards of Loikaw, and in Htee Se Khar village. The victims included a 40-year-old woman and a 9-year-old child.

Regarding the danger of landmines around residential areas, a displaced woman from Loikaw shared her concerns.

“We still have our house in Loikaw, although it has been damaged. People are going back and forth and doing some cleaning around the house. But we no longer want to clean up. The house is no longer in good condition, and whenever we hear frequent reports of people stepping on mines, we lose the desire to return,” she said.

In addition, according to KnHRG records, human rights violations committed by the military regime during April resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including one man, one woman, and three children. Another eleven civilians were injured, including six men, one woman, two children, and two people whose gender was unidentified.
