Three children were killed and several others injured when a military airstrike hit a school sheltering internally displaced people (IDPs) in eastern Loikaw Township, Karenni State, according to the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC).

The school was hit by an airstrike at around 2 p.m. on October 31. No clashes were reported in the area at the time of the attack, he said.

“There are deaths and injuries, but for now we can only confirm three fatalities,” U Ba Nyar said.
IEC records show that the three victims were one boy and two girls. The junta reportedly used a Y-12 aircraft and a jet fighter to carry out the attack, dropping more than 20 bombs.

According to IEC records, five other children were injured in the attack, including four girls aged 12, 13, 15 and 16, and a nine-year-old boy. One of the injured children is reported to be in critical condition.

The junta also carried out an airstrike on eastern Loikaw Township in the early hours of October 23, injuring three internally displaced people (IDPs).

Residents say the junta has intensified attacks on civilian areas across Karenni State throughout October, carrying out frequent airstrikes, bombings, and suicide drone attacks.
