Residents from several villages near Moebye town have been forced to flee again as a joint military column of the military junta and the Pa-O National Organization (PNO) advances closer to the Liwo villages at the foothills of Loiyin mountain near Moebye, according to local sources.
“They told the elderly and children to move first. They also asked us to carry our rice. For someone like me, it is very difficult because I no longer have a husband. If the soldiers arrive and we have to run, I feel very worried since I am alone,” she said.
Village leaders and revolutionary forces have also informed residents to move elderly people, children, rice supplies, and essential belongings in advance for safety.
In recent days, Saung Phalan village has also been attacked with drone-dropped bombs, and artillery shelling.
Meanwhile, internally displaced people said the rising price of fuel across Karenni State is creating additional difficulties when they have to flee urgently.
“It’s very exhausting both financially and physically. These days fuel is very difficult to get. The price has gone up, and sometimes we cannot even buy it. We don’t know how we will travel,” an internally displaced woman said.
Currently in Moebye, gasoline costs between 10,000 and 15,000 kyats per liter. Hiring a vehicle from Moebye to the western part of Demoso Township costs between 100,000 and 150,000 kyats, which is extremely difficult for people facing financial hardship.
Displaced people also said that those who do not own cars or motorcycles need assistance when relocating.
At present, the Loiyin foothill area and Liwo villages, where residents are urgently relocating, have an estimated over 600 households with around 1,000 people.
