The Chairman of the Karenni National Defense Force (KNDF), Khun Bee Htoo, has ordered all central command units, strategic offices, and battalion members under KNDF not to waste bullets by celebration gunfire during the Christmas and New Year period.
This warning comes in response to past incidents where celebration gunfire caused public fear and anxiety, according to KNDF’s spokesperson for media and communication, Ta Eh Soe.
“In previous years, during some festivals like Christmas and New Year, some revolutionary groups fired guns as part of celebrations. That’s why we aim to prevent this kind of incident,” said Ta Eh Soe.
Gunfire, even in celebration situations, near civilian areas can cause fear among the communities, said a female resident.
“I think bullets (gunfire) are not something to celebrate or enjoy. Even though they say it is for Christmas or New Year, it still fears us if we are not informed in advance. Hearing gunfire in this tense situation is frightening,” she explained.
Celebration gunfire has occurred during some special events or important occasions, but according to a revolutionary fighter, such actions are discouraged.
The Chairman’s directive also emphasized that ammunition donated by the citizens should be only used for military purposes. He advised KNDF members to refrain from misusing resources or engaging in unnecessary gunfire during the holidays.
The statement also clarified that failure to comply with this directive or order will result in disciplinary action.
