Revolutionary forces launched an attack on Htoo Chaung Base, located between Bawlakhe and Hpasaung Townships in Karenni State, on October 12. According to reports, junta soldiers abandoned the base and fled. Consequently, the revolutionary forces seized some weapons and ammunition during the clearing of the base.

Colonel Phone Nain, Chief of Military for the Karenni Army (KA), stated that the capture of the base would improve movement for both the revolutionary forces and civilians in the area.

“Since they lost the base, we now control a much larger area, and movement has become easier. Htoo Chaung is a strategic location, so the capture has a significant impact not only for our forces but also for the people. It will greatly facilitate our mobility and daily activities,” said Colonel Phone Nain to the Kantaryawaddy Times.

The attack to capture the base began with drone strikes on September 25. On the morning of October 12, the revolutionary forces succeeded in taking full control of the base, Colonel Phone Nain added.

During the operation, as junta forces fled, the revolutionary troops seized weapons and ammunition. The attack was a joint effort involving Hpasaung People’s Defense Force (PDF), KA Drone Force, and other revolutionary groups, according to a statement released by Hpasaung PDF on October 12.

In 2024, revolutionary forces have successfully captured key junta-controlled bases in Bawlakhe township, including Maesalong Mountain Base, Yaykyaw Base, and Htoo Chaung Base.
