Karenni Army (KA) and Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) have rid Shardaw Township of ground soldiers loyal to the State Administration Council (SAC) after capturing the junta’s last strategic mountain-top position outside of Shardaw town in Karenni State on Monday.

According to Col Phone Naing, the adjutant general for the KA, one of the key armed groups involved in the raid, they killed over half of the 80 SAC soldiers stationed in the camp, including the commander. Four resistance fighters suffered minor injuries during the clash, but no one died.

The Karenni leader said they had control of the camp in less than 3 hours after attacking at 6 am and seized weapons and ammunition from the enemy.

After the fighting was over, SAC sent in a jet fighter that bombed the area, damaging 40 homes in Shardaw town.

On February 5, SAC’s Infantry Battalion 249, which was based in the township, killed six civilians, including a pregnant woman, they had captured after the only male prisoner managed to escape.
