There is currently an outbreak of seasonal influenza and diarrhea among IDPs in eastern Demoso Township in Karenni State. Both adults and children are suffering from these maladies.

“The weather is really hot and there is a water drought in this area. Many IDPs are sick with seasonal influenza. Many people are also suffering from diarrhea,” a female health worker helping IDPs in the area told KNG.

A male IDP, aged 30 year-old, said that both children and elderly people are suffering from diarrhea and seasonal influenza in eastern Demoso Township.

“Both elderly people and children are sick with seasonal flu,” the male IDP told Kantarawaddy Times.

Volunteers said that roads have been blocked because of frequent armed clashes in eastern Demoso Township. The blocked roads and unstable security situation have disrupted the transport of food rations and medicine to IDPs living in eastern Demoso Township.

Intense battles have been fought in eastern Demoso Township since 9 March, which has driven up the number of displaced people in the area.

The Karenni Human Rights Group reported that 250,000 people have been affected by the armed conflicts in Karenni state after military coup.
