What has changed in Pre’ Region, the western part of Hpruso, in this five years of NLD-led government? What are their current needs and demands? Here is what the Kantarawaddy Times interviewed some locals from there.

There are totally 26 villages inhabited by the Pre’ tribe with a population of between 5,000 and 7,000 within Kay Kaw Village-tract, Tho Thee Pho Village-tract, and Raw Daw Kaw Village-tract, the three village-tracts who live in Pre’ region, western side of Htoo Chaung River, west of Hpruso Township.

“As for me, I think about this villager. I would like to ask a lot for the development of the villagers. However, I have to say that the main need is for transportation. And when it comes to health, sometimes doctors only visit once a month, so it’s better if the clinics are close to us. ”

“The thing changed between 2015 and 2020 is the number of teachers increased slightly. And they provided staff housing. In socio-economic terms, it has not changed much. It is the same as before.”

“I want to demand that the education and health of the people be better only if there is good transportation. But now the road is not good. Teachers could not come because it was not convenient to travel in raining season. Since they could not travel, they did not want to come. There is also needs in term of health sector. Now there is a clinic in our Tho Thee Pho Village-tract; however, the nurse has not been yet till now. The situation is like the current clinic building is completed but the nurses have not arrived yet. ”

“What we want is for our ethnic rights. The main laws need to be amended to protect us. Then another point is the road. We want them to help us the road and electricity.”

“In the next two or three years, they could pave Yado Road with concrete. For the Hoya road, they constructed with shoveled sand (small stone), but none of the small stone left on road. Everyone who come across it could see it. The road is also with a big ups and downs. It is also dangerous. But for the good, I will keep asking for it.”
