On February 17, the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) announced that military troops stationed at the Huay Onn and Kyarpasa Gyi military camps, located on the eastern part of the Thanlwin River in Shandaw Township in Karenni State, finally vacated the premises, and retreated on February 13.

The two stations from which the military council troops retreated are: Kyarpasa Gyi, which is a hilltop base that dominates the Hwaypunlong area, and Huay Onn Station, which is based near the Nam Pang River. KNDF reported that between February 10 and 13, the junta troops were withdrawn along with artillery, and the bases were subsequently abandoned.

On February 14, KNDF Battalion (21) and the Karenni National People’s Liberation Front (KNPLF) conducted a joint clearance operation at the Huay Onn camp, confiscating rice and cement bags from the premises. Similarly, the Karenni Army (KA) initiated a clearance operation at the Kyarpasa Gyi military strategic base on the eastern part of the Thanlwin River.

These two military camps, from which the military council retreated, are reported to be critical frontline positions along the Karenni-Thai border.

On February 12, the Karenni coalition forces successfully seized all strategic hilltop camps and bases. Currently, Karenni resistance groups maintain control over the town of Shandaw.
