The Burma Army (BA) murdered over 30 people, including children, and burned their bodies in their vehicles on Christmas Eve after fighting with Karenni resistance groups near Mo So village in Hpruso Township, Karenni State.

”We do not know who the victims are. Only their families will be able to identify them, but we are sure the BA has done so,” a Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) officer told Kantarawaddy Times.

At least four Border Guard Force (BGF) members who reportedly tried to negotiate their release were tied up and also killed on the spot. “I am speechless. They killed four BGF members who were working with the soldiers from BA. I do not understand; they (BA) are not even human beings,” the officer said. The BGF soldiers were from a camp near Mo So.

According to the KNDF, they and the Karenni Army clashed with a BA column near the village for four hours from 11:30am. BA shelling injured one Mo So villager and the army torched seven vehicles, including a lorry, and burned five motorbikes. Residents from 20 villages fled the fighting in Hpruso.
