Residents and internally displaced people (IDPs) in the western part of Mobye Township, along the Shan–Karenni border, have been forced to flee attacks by the military junta and urgently need assistance, residents said.
The junta has been carrying out airstrikes, drone attacks and heavy artillery shelling on the western part of Mobye Township since October 8. Two IDPs were killed in the airstrikes.
“Everyone has fled the area. The airstrike hit close to where we were staying. After the airstrike, the military launched heavy artillery attacks during the night, followed by drone strikes,” a male resident told Kantarawaddy Times.
He added that some residents were forced to abandon their rice paddies as they fled the area. A female internally displaced person (IDP) said those who have been displaced need essential supplies,
Because we have been repeatedly displaced and forced to relocate, there is a need for essential items such as tarpaulins, toilet buckets, rice, cooking oil, and salt,” she said.
Residents and IDPs have now been displaced for three days, and residents say more than 500 people are affected.
Fighting between the military junta and resistance forces has been ongoing in the western part of Mobye Township since October 7. The Mobye People’s Defence Force (PDF) said that following the clashes, the junta carried out heavy artillery attacks, drone strikes, and airstrikes in the area. According to the group, the attacks damaged many civilian homes.
The Mobye People’s Defence Force (PDF) also warned that fighting could break out again in the area. The group advised residents to remain alert and avoid traveling through areas that have been designated as restricted due to security concerns.
