Military Airstrike on a Location in Hpasawng Township Kills One Civilian

A military airstrike targeted a location in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 16, killing a man in his twenties, according to local residents.

Residents said three civilians were injured in the bombing, and one of them later died from severe injuries.

“It happened around 3 p.m. A villager was killed. He made it to the hospital, but he didn’t survive. A boat also sank, along with the goods it was carrying,” a local resident said.

The attack also destroyed a vehicle belonging to a local transporter and damaged the goods it was carrying. According to the vehicle owner, the combined value of the destroyed vehicle and cargo exceeded 170 million kyats (1700 lakhs).

“The vehicle alone is worth about 100 million kyats. The cargo was worth more than 40 million kyats, but it was swept away into the water. We couldn’t recover even half of it. Another person’s losses are estimated at over 30 million kyats,” he said.

Earlier, on July 14, the military also carried out airstrikes on three locations in eastern Loikaw Township, killing a woman in her 50s. Local residents said that throughout July, the military has frequently conducted airstrikes, artillery shelling, and drone bomb attacks across various parts of Karenni State.
