Residents along the Shan–Karenni border in the Moebye area have been forced to flee and leave behind their farms and plantations after the military junta launched an offensive operation. Clashes broke out between junta troops and revolutionary forces on May 13.
“There are no jobs here, so we can only rely on aid support. We had to leave all of our plantations behind,” said one displaced resident from Moebye.
Those currently fleeing had already been displaced by conflict before, but had returned to the area in order to continue working on their farms and agricultural activities.
Most of them mainly cultivated rice, while some had already cleared their farmland but had to leave it untouched.
According to one resident, while they were working on their farms, junta forces carried out drone surveillance and artillery shelling. As the military column also advanced closer to their villages, they were forced to flee again.
At present, the newly displaced residents from Moebye are surviving through temporary jobs and assistance provided by donors and aid supporters.
