The military junta carried out another airstrike on a location in the Mawchi area of Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, at around 1:00 a.m. on February 5, resulting in the death of a woman over 70 years old, according to local residents.
“An elderly grandmother died. I think she was over 70 years old. Three others were injured in the airstrike,” a local resident said.
Some residential houses were also damaged during the bombing.
“I heard the sound last night. When the aircraft came, I jumped into a bunker. I heard a loud ‘boom’ just once,” another Mawchi resident said.
Previously, on January 30, the junta conducted airstrikes on two locations in the Mawchi area, killing one person and injuring seven others.
As the junta frequently carries out airstrikes in the Mawchi area, where there is no ongoing fighting, the public is living in fear and anxiety.
