Local sources report that junta troops stationed in Pruso Township, Karenni State, have been patrolling in civilian clothing and planting landmines in accessible areas—including near cultivated hillsides and locations routinely used by civilians.

“Many landmines have been planted near the villages and in the surrounding hill farmland lately. This may be because the junta station there have less manpower, so they rely more on landmines. Sometimes one or two soldiers even go out in civilian clothes just to plant them,” the source said.

Security checkpoints along the Dee Maw Hso–Pruso highway have been reinforced, and unlike in previous years, mines are now being placed not only around village boundaries but also farther into mountainous areas.

As a result, livestock casualties have surged due to landmines. More than 20 cattle were killed or injured by mines between September and November, according to local reports.

“With the arrival of the dry season, explosions occur more frequently. Many cattle have been hit by mines, especially in the forested areas near Tee Paw Hso village. Civilians must be extremely careful when traveling,” the source added.

Resistance groups active in the area have also urged the public to exercise caution along the Dee Maw Hso–Pruso road due to the rising landmine threat.
