In southern Shan State’s Hsihseng Township, more than 100 civilian houses were destroyed by fire within 10 days after being burned down by the military junta and the Pa-O National Organization (PNO) joint forces, according to Khun Reinyan, a spokesperson for the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA).

The houses that were set on fire were from Naung Htaw Kayan Quarter and Naung Bo villages in Hsihseng Township.

“Many houses in Naung Htaw Kayan Quarter were torched. Naung Htaw and Naung Bo villages lost over 100 houses, according to the reports we received. The exact number of houses is not yet confirmed,” Khun Reinyan said.

In Naung Bo village alone, at least 20 houses were destroyed by fire, while the exact number for Naung Htaw Kayan Quarter has not yet been confirmed.

The military junta and PNO joint forces launched an offensive with over 1,000 troops on August 6, which led to more than a week of clashes between revolutionary forces and military troops.

After the fighting, the military forces began burning civilian homes, and by August 13, at least 24 houses in Naung Htaw Kayan Quarter and Naung Htaw Kalar Lan Village had already been destroyed by fire.

Although fighting in the area has ceased, they continue burning civilian homes. As a result, more than 100 houses have already been destroyed, and at present, houses in Ta Pu Htoe Village, in addition to Naung Htaw and Naung Bo, are still being burned down, according to PNLA spokesperson Khun Reinyan.
