It announced in the Karenni State Ethnic Youth Seminar, held in Wan Ngord Village, Loikaw, on March 18, that the Karenni State ethnic youths will support Karenni (Kayah) State based ethnic parties in upcoming 2020-election.

The member of Karenni State Ethnic Youth Leading Committee Dominic Sain said, “Due to our state’s territory, we understand as our state people should listen our voice more. If we look at the previous 2015-election winner NLD government, they did not care and listen about the ethnic issue. In spite of that, they did more restriction. By supporting our ethnic parties in 2020-election, both the political issue and ethnical issue would be better.”

He kept saying that they expect the chance to empower youth participation in politics and youth voice in peace process if the ethnic parties win the seat in upcoming election.

The Chairperson of Kayan National Party (KNP) Khoon Bi Htoo said he is pleased with the youths’ support upon ethnic parties.

Khoon Bi Htoo said, “I am very satisfied with the decision that the youth groups will support ethnic parties. As for us, let’s do together with our nation duty for our nationals as much as we can.”

He also encouraged the youths to support them in public awareness and party campaign and to train public to do right voting without losing vote by mistake when voting in upcoming election.

Currently the two state-based parties, Kayan National Party (KNP) and Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP), formed as alliance party, and they will cooperate together in party’s election campaign.

“We also promise to build stronger cooperation especially with youth, care more on youth affairs, and build stronger networking between youths and government or political parties,” Khoon Bi Htoo said.

The Chairperson of Kayan National Party (KNP) Khoon Bi Htoo said if only two of their parties could win the seat, they will form stronger committee and budget which could implement and help youths affairs as for the youths who will support us.

The chairperson of Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP) U Phoe Reh said, “It also mentioned in election announcement. It also includes in our party’s policy. The party already stated the rights the youths deserve to have. We have plan to support the youths in accordance with the policy.”
