A storm on the evening of May 14th damaged shelters in the Maw Ti Dow IDP camp in western Hpruso Township, Karenni State. An IDP woman told Kantarawaddy Times that the camp still lacks the urgently needed tarpaulin to repair the damaged shelters.

“We still haven’t received any tarpaulin. We are trying to repair the damaged shelters with broken pieces, which are not effective in providing safe shelter,” said the IDP woman.

The camp houses over 200 families. Around 15 shelters were damaged when a strong wind hit the camp around 3 pm on May 14th.

The IDP woman also said that the camp needs food supplies in addition to tarpaulins for the damaged shelters.

“The main thing we need is food. We are receiving food supplies from organizations, but it’s not enough,” she said.

With the arrival of the rainy season, IDPs are concerned about further damage to their shelters due to strong winds. A storm on May 2nd had already destroyed around 50 shelters in another IDP camp in western Hpruso Township.
