Armed forces fired live rounds and rubber bullets at a protest killing a man and injuring others in Demawso Township.

An eyewitness told Kantarawaddy Times when armed forces arrived at 6-mile Sanya village, on the morning of April 27, some of the elders went to talk with them.

“I thought the conversation must not have been going well because they immediately retreated.”

Soon after five police arrived on the scene and opened fire on people standing in front of their homes. The source heard one person was shot in the head and another shot six times in their abdomen. Four were injured by rubber bullets.

Armed forces destroyed barricades erected by residents from Ngwe Taung village-tract, Sel Myaung and 6-mile Sanpya village-tract.

Paul Lu, 50, is the fourth person killed in Kayah State since demonstrations broke out against the military regime soon after the February 1 coup.
