Residents of Kasupa village in Phekon Township, on the Shan-Karenni border, say nearly the entire village — including children and the elderly — has fallen ill, and urgent medicine and healthcare assistance are needed.
The number of sick villagers has been rising since the second week of August, and as of now there has been no improvement, according to a local woman.
“Almost the whole village is sick. It’s mainly seasonal flu — that’s what’s happening right now,” she said.
Beyond fever, most of the children and adults are also experiencing itching, diarrhea, and bloody stools, along with symptoms suspected to be malaria and mumps, the local woman said.
Kasupa village has no clinic or medicine, and because of poor road access, obtaining the necessary medicine and healthcare assistance has been difficult, it is reported.
“Medicine is completely out of reach. There’s no organization that can provide support with medicine either — it’s a situation where help just can’t get here,” the local woman continued.
Kasupa village is located in a remote, mountainous area within Yi Nwet (2) village tract, on the border between Phekon and Pinlaung townships, and is home to 23 households with a population of 131.
