Two civilians were killed after junta forces carried out a suicide drone attack on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in eastern Loikaw Township, Karenni State, according to a local social worker who is assisting displaced people.
The attack took place yesterday evening, August 11, when a suicide drone that carried three drop bombs struck the camp.
“Two people died — one woman and one man. Two other men were also hit; one is currently receiving a blood transfusion, and the other has no internal organ damage, so there’s no serious concern,” said a local who is assisting displaced people.
Due to communication difficulties, detailed information about the ages of the two killed and the injured, as well as conditions on the ground, remains hard to obtain. Besides the civilian casualties, the drone attack also destroyed one shelter in the IDP camp by fire.
On July 14, junta forces also carried out an airstrike and bombing on three locations in eastern Loikaw, killing one displaced woman. Displaced people said the areas targeted by junta forces have no fighting and were inhabited only by civilians.
Due to the current security situation, schools in eastern Loikaw Township have reportedly been temporarily closed.
So far this August, junta airstrikes and drone bombings on Demawso, Hpruso, and eastern Loikaw townships in Karenni State have killed 8 civilians.
