In Karenni State, the military junta carried out airstrikes on three locations in the eastern part of Loikaw Township at around 5:00 p.m. on July 14. According to a local resident who spoke to Kantarawaddy Times, a displaced woman was killed in the attacks.
The victim, a woman believed to be around 50 years old, was killed after being struck by shrapnel from an aerial bomb. In addition to the civilian fatality, several houses and vehicles were damaged in the attacks.
“One civilian was killed. They dropped six bombs on an IDP camp. They also dropped two bombs on a village, damaging houses and vehicles, but there were no civilian casualties there. Around six bombs were dropped in Pon Chaung,” a local man said.
The airstrikes targeted by junta’s airstrikes are two displacement camps and one village where civilians were living. According to local sources, the attacks were carried out by three military aircraft.
“The child’s father was staying there. I wanted to ask whether anyone had been injured, but we could not reach them online. I think they’ve all fled into the forests and mountains,” said a woman living at one of the displacement camps.
Residents said there had been no fighting in the area before the airstrikes. The civilians are living in fear and anxiety due to the junta’s bombings.
