The Karenni State Police (KSP) announced in its fourth-anniversary report that from August 2024 to this August, it has handled a total of 164 cases.
According to the report, these cases included those related to the military commission, homicide, rape, robbery, theft, drug offenses, drug trafficking, assault, property damage, and domestic violence.
The KSP announced that, alongside cases reported by the public in Karenni State, criminal suspects are being prosecuted in court using evidence gathered in line with legal procedures, with judges delivering verdicts based on the evidence presented and the prosecution’s burden of proof.
A local woman reported that in the western part of Dee Maw HsoTownship, the most densely populated area of Karenni state, theft, drug use, and drug trafficking remain the most prevalent crimes.
“In the past, drugs were mostly used by men. But now, during this spring revolution, it’s not only men—women and even underage children are using them. Because of this, so many young people are destroying their lives, and we are witnessing it with our own eyes. It’s not just our children, but others’ children too. That’s why, we want the authorities to take effective action and completely eliminate drugs,” she said.
Although the KSP has been carrying out enforcement actions, the report noted that it continues to face challenges in delivering services across the state’s vast geographical area.
The Karenni State Police (KSP) operates under the Department of Home Affairs of the Interim Executive Council (IEC) of Karenni State. Since its establishment on August 25, 2021, up until this August, the KSP has handled a total of 641 cases, according to the report.
