Here is a look at what candidates the local people of the Tawku group, who live in the Monumanaw (Kaw Yaw) ethnic group in Hpruso Township, expect to have for their region in the 2020 general election in November.

U Moe Zaw (Pleh Leh Village)

In the upcoming election, we, the residents, want to have the best representative for us, a leader who can be sacrificed for the people. But even though we expected to have like that, sometimes the elders who won the seat could not be sacrificed much for our people. There are people who cannot be sacrificed and even cause trouble to the people. In that case, we want a leader who can be sacrificed for the people.

Francisco (Khawpra Village)

In the upcoming election, whatever government comes to power, we just need the government who will fulfill the need as public request. Besides, it would be better if the local candidates or ethnic candidates nominate in this election. Because it causes barriers in term of unfamiliar territory, lack of local traditional knowledge, and huge language barrier if the candidate is the outsider. Thus, it is much better if the local candidate win the seat.

U Kyaw Sein (Plo Day Kho Village)

He, the candidate, should consider a little for the people. It would be good only if the candidate is the person who can understand the difficulty and needs of the people.

U Darwi (Thaw Khu Village)

Every party says they will help on it. And when they lastly win the seat, the given promise is rarely implemented. But for me, if any party is going to win the seat, they need to check the source; the source means to check and see till the ground level situation. The implementation will be effective only if the ground situation can be checked and the budget can be checked properly in accordance with it. In the current implementation process, they mostly just conducted the project without knowing the ground situation due to their weakness of initial observation. As for me, if possible, it would be better if the expected party can check the village information and local need report submitted by local and then implement it in accordance with the reported data.

The 2020 election is for all citizens. As it is related with all the voteable citizens, the candidate I expect is the person who has willingness and priority to help and support the people. In addition, it would be better if the candidate is a local. I think it is not the core matter to consider any organization or party. I feel like if we get a candidate who really wants to work for our people, we get a very good candidate for us.

Elizabeth (Thaw Khu Village)

As for me, they, the government, are building roads as much as they can now. They are trying hard for regional development. But we will have to wait and see whether they can accomplish the rest in the next term. I want to see the compassion they have for human beings and the things they want to improve.

We want it to happen for the development of our village and our region.
