The bodies of two young men from Pruso, who had been missing for over a month after returning from work in the Mawchi area, were exhumed on August 21, according to their families.
The two young men had been working in Mawchi for two months before returning home on July 5. On their way back, they mistakenly ended up in Bawlake Township, where they were shot and killed near a military council base at Yekyaw. The bodies were discovered buried by resistance forces.
A member of the resistance forces commented on a post by the military council on their propaganda Telegram channel, stating, “The military council reported that two civilians riding a motorcycle were shot dead in Bawlake because they didn’t stop when ordered. In reality, these young men were just returning from work in Mawchi and had taken a wrong turn on their way back home.”
On August 8, after resistance forces successfully captured the Yekyaw base near Bawlake, they found the motorcycle belonging to Khu Mi Reh and Khu Byar Reh at the camp. Continuing their search, they discovered the buried bodies near the Yekyaw base on August 21.
“The bodies were found near a bridge close to the Yekyaw base in Bawlake. The remains were decomposed, but we identified them by their motorcycle and clothing,” a member of the resistance forces explained.
The remains, including skull fragments, bones, and tattered clothing, were recovered and reburied according to Kayah customs on August 22.
The two young men, Khu Mi Reh and Khu Byar Reh, both 19 years old, were residents of Tee Byar Nyay Village in Pruso Township. They were members of the Karenni National
Defense Force (KNDF) Battalion 15 and had not yet completed one year of service, according to an officer from Battalion 15 of the KNDF.
Resistance forces in Karenni State have urged local residents to be cautious when traveling on the Maw Chi road.
