In the Mar Kraw Shin (Ta Phu Dee Ku) IDP camp located in Pruso Township, Karenni State, both adults and infants are suffering from skin infections, according to the IDPs.

As IDPs continue to live in the forest, the need for healthcare has increased. Currently, in addition to skin diseases, seasonal flu is also prevalent.

“Even infants are affected, and the number of cases is quite high. Those who are slightly older or teenagers are experiencing skin rashes. Some people have rash bumps on their scalps underneath their hair, which is more prevalent among adults. Teenagers are experiencing rashes all over their backs. Here, since we don’t have enough medicines, we don’t know what to do. It’s difficult to inform them about what needs to be done,” said a healthcare worker assisting at the IDP camp.

Although the camp receives bi-weekly healthcare visits, adequate medication for skin infections is not available.

Currently, although children have been suffering from skin diseases for months, there has been no improvement. Hygiene is also lacking. Additionally, children frequently fall ill, according to an IDP woman.

“Seasonal flu is rampant here. There are also a few cases of malaria, including a school student. We didn’t see any mosquitoes in previous years; however, this year, they have increased significantly. The malaria cases are concerning,” she stated.

In the Mar Kraw Shin (Ta Phu Dee Ku) IDP camp, which has over 80 households and a population of more than 300 people, there are reportedly 4 cases of malaria.
