In the western part of Dee Maw Hso Township, Karenni State, there have been reports from locals about certain car repair shops engaging in fuel theft and unauthorized replacement of car parts from vehicles brought in for repairs.
According to a female source speaking to Kantarawaddy Times, some shops are instructing customers to buy necessary parts themselves while also stealing or replacing parts without permission.
“This is something I personally experienced. My car’s fuel, which was full, was completely drained after the repair was done. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of such incidents. I’ve heard from others that some shops replace new car parts with old ones. The culprits are mostly the shop workers, and the owners may not even be aware,” she said.
The woman suggested that affected individuals collect evidence such as photo documentation and report the incidents to relevant authorities for further action.
“To prevent this, I would recommend that friends or others monitor the repair process, perhaps from another car, and take photo evidence. Then, the Karenni state police (KSP) should investigate and take necessary action,” she added.
The issue of stolen or swapped car parts has also been reported by the Karenni People’s Voice news outlet, which has documented accounts from victims.
Regarding these incidents, a spokesperson for the Karenni State Police (KSP), Ko Bo Bo, told Kantarawaddy Times that complaints can be formally filed with their office.
“So far, we haven’t received any complaints on this issue at the ground level. However, I want to encourage people to come forward and file complaints at their nearest KSP office,” said Ko Bo Bo.
To address the problem effectively, evidence will be crucial, and locals are advised to only visit trusted repair shops, according to a local man.
“There are many shops, not just one. To avoid such issues, I think it’s important to go to places that you trust,” he said.
Currently, there are reportedly more than 20 car repair shops operating in the western part of Dee Maw Hso Township.
