The military council continues to shell Mobye Township and nearby villages along the Shan-Karenni border on a daily basis, according to resistance forces and local residents.
Although no major clashes occurred between the resistance forces and the military council in Mobye during December, there were minor skirmishes, said Ta Aye Soe, a spokesperson for the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), speaking to Kantarawaddy Times.
“In the Moebye area, heavy artillery is being fired daily. There are only minor skirmishes in the Moebye area. Villages on the eastern bank of the Moebye Dam are being shelled with heavy weapons every day,” said Ta El Soe.
On the morning of December 17, the military council’s troops based in Loikaw launched artillery attacks toward Mobye, raising concerns among locals about potential civilian casualties.
“There is constant artillery fire in Mobye, whether or not there are clashes. Particularly from positions in Hpruso, Loikaw, and Loi Lein Lay, they’re supporting with artillery fire. Just recently, clashes erupted again, and artillery is being fired regularly,” said a local resident.
On December 4, the military council intentionally targeted a displacement camp in Mobye with drone bombings, killing three civilians and injuring three others. Reports indicate that, even in the absence of active clashes, the military frequently targets civilian areas with artillery and drone strikes.
This December, the military council has also used chemical weapons during drone attacks on Mobye and its surrounding areas, prompting resistance forces to warn the public to take precautions.
The military council has been attempting to retake Mobye, which has been under the control of resistance forces for over a year. Clashes reignited in the second week of November and have continued intermittently since then.
