Karenni State Ethnic Youths Open an Office for Federalism

A member of the Karenni State Ethnic Youth Steering Committee, Khun Nang Ri, said that an office had been set up for Karenni ethnic youths to work together to build a system of ethnic federal union.

He said, “The goals we have set so far are to be implemented. Besides, our aim generated from the discussions is to build a federal union with our Karenni youth all together and to empower the youth in political, social, and other sectors.”

An office for Karenni State ethnic youths is being set up in Loikaw’s Nanat Taw ward to discuss how to surround and support the local ethnic parties in the 2020 general election.

“I would like to say our current activities are that our office will take the lead in the local parties overcoming the election” Khun Nang Yee added.

The Karenni State Ethnic Youth Steering Committee will surround and support the local parties, the Kayan National Party (KNP) and the Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP), to win the election.

The General Secretary of KySDP, U Teh Reh, said he is pleased that local ethnic youths support the ethnic party and would work more for national and ethnic issues.

“At this time, I am satisfied that the youths have come and surrounded the ethnic party. And it is important to keep maintaining our networking in this process. So, I want to say that we do not want all the people to have any regrets. Today, this time, we will do our best for the national and ethnic affairs with the support of the youth in the upcoming 2020 election. We will do as much as we can,” said U Teh Reh, the General Secretary of KySDP.

On last year March 18, in Loikaw town, at a workshop of Karenni youth in Wan Ngok village, it was decided to surround local ethnic parties in the 2020 election.

In addition to local parties’ winning elections, they expected to conduct the activities of youth and politics; youth and education; youth and job opportunities; youth and drugs; and the principles and practices of youth and future vision.

The KNP and KySDP, a local ethnic parties, have agreed to join and contest in the 34 constituencies in Kayah State; 30 constituencies for KySDP, and 4 constituencies for KNP.

Karenni State Ethnic Youth Steering Committee is organized by (6) sub-ethnic groups, a local ethnic youths from Kayah (Karenni) State, and those are Kayah, Kayaw, Kayan, Kaw Yaw, Yintale, and Karen.
