Junta Fighter Jets Attack Karenni Fighters In Demawso Township

The regime’s fighter jets pounded positions of the Karenni resistance in Demawso Township on Tuesday night, following clashes the previous day. The junta flew at least 9 airstrikes in 37 minutes from 6pm. Both sides have suffered casualties in the two days of violence.

Karenni National Defence Force’s (KNDF) second battalion soldiers Maung Oo Reh, Maung Alexander and Maung Kaung Myat were among the six resistance fighters killed and over 30 Burma Army (BA) soldiers were killed since Monday .

”Fighting in Demawso Township has escalated in recent days and people need to be careful when travelling in the area. They need to be aware before proceeding to avoid the conflict zones,” the KNDF spokesperson told Kantarawaddy Times.

According to locals, BA burnt down three houses in Nam Mae Khong area in Demawso Township and three in Lor Kyay Khu in Hpruso Township on Monday.

Civilian watchdog group Progressive Karenni People’s Front (PKPF) reported 225 clashes between BA and resistance groups and 108 regime airstrikes in Karenni State from May 2021 to 1 April.
