Two men dressed in civilian clothing on a motorcycle threw two grenades inside the Hpruso Township General Administration Department (GAD) office at about 11am, Tuesday, May 4.

According to locals, two employees were injured by the grenades. One of the staff suffered a chest wound.

The identity of the assailants remains a mystery.

The GAD officer for the township in Kayah State has been pressuring government servants who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement to return to work while cracking down on peaceful protesters and threatening residents to follow his orders.

Following the attack in Hpruso town, police and soldiers are searching cars, motorbikes and checking the mobile phones of everyone passing by.

Last Friday, Burma Army arrested over 70 youths returning from capacity building training offered by an organization in Hpruso Township supported by Karenni National Progressive Party.
