Karenni resistance groups have captured regime fighters alive, including a high-ranking officer, without providing details of his rank or the names of the other men.
After an hour-long battle, the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) and the Pekon People’s Defence Force seized the military checkpoint at Hti Yi in southern Shan State and took the two Burma Army (BA) soldiers and three Pa-O National Army (PNA) soldiers prisoner.
According to the KNDF spokesperson, they killed at least 20 enemy soldiers while two soldiers escaped during the attack in Nyaung Shwe Township. They also seized 60 mm and 81 mm mortars, a RPG, machine guns and assault rifles MA 1 and MA 3.
Currently, the POWs are being interrogated, he said, promising to release a detailed report later. After being injured in the raid, all the prisoners are receiving medical treatment, the spokesperson said.
Two hours after the raid, the BA launched an airstrike on the resistance groups, while the PNA sent reinforcements.
