Health Service for Pregnant Women in Rural Area is Still Low

The member of Maw Chi Region Pa Pwar Kalu Social Development Team, Daw Magret Sein, said the healthcare for pregnant women in rural area with poor transportation is still low in Kayah (Karenni) State.

“In rural areas, they would have transportation difficulties. Besides, the safety for service providers in their travels is also required even if we have those service providers.

Therefore, I realize that there are needs for pregnant women to fully access the vaccination,” said Daw Magret Sein from Maw Chi Region Pa Pwar Kalu Social Development Team.

Daw Magret Sein also said those 75% of rural population in Kayah State do not fully access the health service from the government in their rural areas.

The Kayah State Joint-secretary / General Practitioner of Myanmar Medical Association (MMA), Dr. Pyit Phyo Kyaw, said the government is attempting to provide perfect healthcare by 2030.

“We targeted for the basic inclusive, everyone can access, healthcare system in this year, 2021. Then they will be able to access more than the basic healthcare by 2026. We can indicate it as the medium extent. Then we can provide the perfect healthcare by 2030. So, we see that we are working hard step by step like this,” said Dr. Pyit Phyo Kyaw, the General Practitioner.

According to 2014 housing census, there are over two hundred and eighty thousand population in Kayah (Karenni) State, and more than half of the population are women. Among the population, it is found there are 72,000 pregnant women according to the statistics.
