Landslides in the western region of Pruso Township, Karenni State, have caused significant transportation challenges following continuous heavy rainfall over the past week. Rising water levels in streams between Yae Aye Pya and Thae Khoke villages have led to severe disruptions, affecting local residents’ ability to travel.
Beginning on September 11, additional landslides were reported along public roads, further complicating transportation, according to a local woman interviewed by Kantharawaddy Times.
“The flooding is primarily due to rising stream levels, which have also damaged bridges. The heavy rain has triggered landslides, resulting in blocked roads. Transportation has become especially difficult for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the western region,” the resident explained.
Although village leaders have initiated repair efforts, certain areas remain inaccessible to cars and motorcycles.
Villagers are actively working to clear landslide-affected areas to restore access, but authorities have issued warnings, advising caution as the potential for further landslides remains high if the heavy rainfall continues.
In a similar situation, parts of Dee Maw Hso Township’s western areas have also been impacted by rising streams, which have damaged both rice fields and roads, further affecting the local community.
