The Interim Executive Council (IEC) of Karenni State was established in June 2023, and as of now, it has more than 1,090 employees, according to reports. Among these employees are those who have participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), with the majority of them working in the health department, according to U Banya, the second secretary of the IEC, who spoke to Kantarawaddy Times. .

“Currently, we have about 1,090 employees, although this number isn’t yet official. Some townships and departments are still in the process of appointing employees. So far, the data we have indicates that there are over 1,090 employees,” said U Banya

According to the IEC’s records, over 300 CDM workers are currently part of the council, with the highest number of them working in the health department, he adde

“At the moment, our records show that there are 309 CDM employees. In terms of absolute numbers, most of them are in the interior affairs department. However, in terms of percentage, the health department has the largest proportion of CDM participants,” U Banya continued.

In its first year, the IEC’s health department, with its majority of CDM health workers, has provided medical treatment to over 50,000 people, including civilians and revolutionary forces. Additionally, they have opened more than 60 clinics and one public hospital, according to the IEC’s one-year report. The department is also expanding its healthcare services by opening more clinics and launching mobile healthcare units to improve access to healthcare in rural areas.

Since its formation a year ago, the IEC has established nine departments, including the health department. The most recent department to be formed is the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation.
