Due to the military junta’s control along the entire main road from Moebye town to Moebye-Loikaw on the Shan-Karenni border, villagers living on the east side of Pekhon Lake are now trapped with no escape routes to avoid the fighting, according to a local woman.

A local woman who remains in the village said that since the afternoon of July 10th, all exit routes have been blocked.

“We can’t get out anymore. The roads are now blocked. Since last night, they (the military) started closing the roads, so now it is impossible to leave,” said the woman.

Although rescue groups managed to evacuate some people before the roads were closed, there are still some locals who remain trapped.

“Yesterday, some from the rescue team managed to go in. But some of those who went also got trapped and left behind. Today, it’s completely impossible to leave. The roads are totally closed now,” said a rescue worker.

A woman who escaped together with the rescue team reported that they faced heavy artillery attacks along the way. As many who remain trapped lack access to vehicles like cars or motorcycles, this situation makes it even harder for them to flee.

“It was very difficult when we escaped. Those with cars or motorcycles could get out on their own, but others had to wait for rescue vehicles to evacuate them,” the rescue worker explained.

While the military junta forces control the Moebye-Loikaw road, joint attacks by the military troops and Pa-O National Organization (PNO) allied troops have also reached Saung Nan Kae village on the east side of Pekhon Lake.

As of now, Kantarawaddy Times cannot confirm the exact number of people still trapped on the east side of Pekhon Lake.
