Nine schools in the eastern part of DeeMawHso Township, Karenni State, which were closed last year due to military offensives by the junta, have reopened. However, they continue to face difficulties and significant shortages, according to the Township Education Officer of eastern DeeMawHso.
There are significantly needs for educational materials and school supplies for these schools.
“Schools that haven’t received any project support are really lacking basic items like books, teaching aids, and school supplies,” said the Township Education Officer.
The schools in need include three in the Dawtamagyi group and six in the HteePokalo group.
Additionally, due to floods in September, two schools in the IDP camp near Pon River had to be closed for almost a month.
After the flooding, school buildings were damaged so it requires reconstruction and repairs. Assistance is also needed for roofing and protective coverings.
There are a total of 27 schools in eastern DeeMawHso Township, most of which are opened in IDP camps. The schools collectively serve over 3,000 students, taught by more than 300 teachers.
