By the report from those who are helping the IDPs, the schools at IDPs camp No. 6, Pon River, in the eastern part of Demoso Township, Karenni, had to be closed due to the river water level rising.

A member of Tun Myanmar Donation, an organization assisting IDPs, informed Kantarawaddy Times that continuous heavy rain had caused water to enter the school rooms located near the riverside, resulting in the school closure.

“Most of the schools opened along Pon riverside are now closed due to the significant rise in water levels. Some schools have to use rafts and ropes to cross from one side to the other, but even the ropes for pulling the rafts are now sunk,” said a member of Tun Myanmar Donation.

Although the school has been closed for over a week, the water level has not declined, so the school cannot be reopened at present.

Only the schools near the riverside are closed, while other schools located farther away and unaffected by the rising water remain open.

It is known that there are over 300 IDPs families in the IPDs Camp No. 6, and the school operates classes from KG to Grade 10 with more than 380 students.
