It has been reported by locals that some pharmacies in Dee Maw Hso Township, Karenni State, are facing medicine shortages, making it difficult to purchase commonly used medications.

“It’s difficult to buy medicine. Since before the Thadingyut holiday, no cars have been able to come in, and there has been a shortage of medicine. Essential items like injections and saline are especially scarce,” said a pharmacy seller.

The shortage is due to a lack of goods entering the state. Although it is still possible to order necessary medicines through other means, sellers have mentioned that they have to pay higher prices to obtain them.

“Buying medicine is becoming more difficult, and each month is different. Every time we purchase, the price goes up,” the seller added.

This shortage is causing difficulties for patients with chronic illnesses.

“Some medicines are indeed out of stock. It’s particularly tough for people who rely on long-term medication when supplies run out. Also, people coming from far away to buy medicine are struggling because there’s nothing left,” a pharmacy seller stated.

Currently, supply routes into Karenni State are unusable, and checkpoints set up by the military council are making it difficult for other goods, including medicine, to enter the area.

Locals have reported that the shortage of goods and medicines in the western part of Dee Maw Hso Township has been ongoing for about a month.
