In Loikaw city, Karenni State, the long-distance bus terminal—previously located in the Naung Yar neighborhood—has now been relocated and reopened near the Kayah Stadium, according to local residents.
A reopening ceremony was held this morning at the new site near the Kayah Stadium, attended by the military-appointed Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin. The event was also attended by departmental staff, bus line operators, and some local residents.
“Now that the fighting has subsided, the bus gates along the Kyettharyar Road have been operating smoothly. But now it seems they’ve consolidated them into a single location,” said a local from Loikaw.
The new location is still close to the city center but is also near a military camp and army deployment area. A local resident noted that this proximity allows the authorities to carry out stricter inspections on travelers.
“The relocated bus terminal is close to the Sports Academy, where the SAC has stationed troops. They probably moved it there to conduct more thorough checks,” another local resident commented.
Currently, the bus line between Karenni State and Shan State is running regularly. It is reported that the fare for a passenger on the Loikaw-Taunggyi route is 30,000 kyats.
