The Karenni Joint Revolutionary Forces, also known as the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), announced on July 3 that they had successfully seized the Myanmar military’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 134, which was based in Hpasawng town, Karenni State.

According to the Karenni Joint Revolutionary Forces, the Karenni forces initiated their operation on June 25, targeting the remaining two junta camps in Hpasawng Township, LIB 134 and LIB 135. They managed to capture LIB 134 on June 30.

Along with the capture of the base, weapons and military equipment from LIB 134 were also seized. The captured junta soldiers and their family members are now under the control of the administrative department, said Tar Eh Soe, spokesperson for the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF).

“The administration is taking responsibility for the detainees and their families. They are being taken care of properly. Detailed information about the list of captured soldiers will be released later,” said Tar Eh Soe.

Currently, only the LIB 135 base remains under junta control in Hpasawng, and efforts are underway to seize it as well, he added.

The joint forces also claimed that they were able to shoot down a junta FTC 2000G fighter jet during the battle. However, the junta countered that the aircraft crashed either due to technical failure or bad weather conditions.

It has been reported that the revolutionary forces have been attempting to seize both LIB 134 and 135 in Hpasawng since January 29, 2024. However, due to insufficient arms and ammunition, they were forced to retreat multiple times.
