Amidst ongoing clashes between the military junta and resistance forces in the border region of Karenni and Shan States, the junta is reportedly delivering weapons via air to the 422nd Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) stationed near Moe Bye town.
A spokesperson for the Moe Bye People’s Defense Force (MBPDF) revealed that the junta has significantly increased its military activity in the area, particularly since August 5th, including the use of air transport for delivering ammunition and weapons.
“The frequency of clashes has been increasing, and recently, there has been a noticeable escalation in the junta’s activities, including more frequent air deliveries of ammunition,” the MBPDF spokesperson stated.
Beyond these airlifts, military operations surrounding the 422nd LIB base have intensified, with artillery fire targeting areas with civilian populations. Consequently, schools in the western region of Hpruso have been temporarily closed due to safety concerns, as confirmed by local educators.
One teacher, expressing her concern, stated, “If asked how much we are worried, we would say that we are 100 percent undeniably concerned about our security. We’ve implemented protective measures like digging trenches; however, if the situation deteriorates, we will have to send the children home and possibly close the schools.”
On July 25th, the military forces stationed at the 422nd LIB reportedly breached the Moe Bye dam, resulting in flooding in parts of Moe Bye, Dee Maw Hso, and Loikaw towns.
With ongoing clashes in and around Moe Bye, the MBPDF issued a notice on August 10th, advising civilians to avoid returning to their homes due to the escalating risk of further conflict.
