Throughout February 2025, frequent clashes have been occurring between the military junta forces and local defense groups in Karenni State, including the townships of Hpruso, Bawlakhe, Loikaw, and the Mobye area.

According to a statement released today (March 4) by the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), five of its soldiers were killed in these battles.

KNDF spokesperson Ta El Soe told Kantarawaddy Times that fighting has remained intense as the military junta continues its offensive throughout February in an effort to regain control of Moe Bye town.

“At present, the battle in Mawchi remains intense. The military junta is aggressively pushing forward and launching operations to seize control of the town,” said Ta El Soe.

Due to the escalating clashes near the Shan-Karenni border in Moe Bye township, Ta El Soe urged civilians to stay vigilant for their safety.

“Since the fighting is escalating, we strongly advise local residents to follow the instructions and guidelines issued by local defense forces. The military junta frequently launches airstrikes and artillery attacks; therefore, it is crucial for people to stay aware of security risks and establish safety plans in secure locations.,” he added.

In Moe Bye town, where both sides are engaged in heavy combat, the military junta has been using airstrikes, drones, and heavy artillery shelling. According to KNDF, these attacks have resulted in the destruction of at least 50 civilian homes, four schools, and four religious buildings.

Additionally, during February, a total of 15 junta soldiers defected to the KNDF or fled their units without a clear destination, as stated in the KNDF’s report.
